Vienna’s meeting industry reached unprecedented heights in 2024, hosting a total of 6,619 congresses and corporate events. This marks a 3% increase from the previous year, highlighting the city’s growing appeal as a meeting destination.

The economic impact of these events was equally impressive, generating €1.32 billion in added value for Austria. This figure reflects the significant role that meetings play in the national economy, contributing to job creation and tax revenue.

International congresses were particularly influential, accounting for 781 of the total events and attracting approximately 260,000 participants. These congresses contributed €956 million to the economy, representing 73% of the total economic impact from meetings.

The medical sector led the way in congress events, with human medicine-related gatherings responsible for 43% of all overnight stays generated by congresses in 2024.

Vienna Meeting Fund 2025-2028: Supporting Sustainable Events

To further bolster its position as a leading meeting destination, Vienna has introduced the Vienna Meeting Fund 2025-2028. This €4 million fund is designed to support international events held in Vienna between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028.

The fund offers financial assistance for events that meet specific criteria, including a subject-specific agenda, a minimum duration of two consecutive days, and at least 50% international participants.

Events that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability are eligible for a maximum funding amount of €60,000. This initiative underscores Vienna’s dedication to promoting eco-friendly practices within the meetings industry.

IMEX Frankfurt 2025: Vienna’s Presence at the Leading Global Exhibition

Vienna will be prominently featured at IMEX Frankfurt 2025, Europe’s largest exhibition for meetings and events professionals. From May 20–22, the Vienna Convention Bureau will be located at Booth E160, ready to connect with international meeting planners and showcase the city’s offerings.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with key representatives, including Katharina Jenewein, Carola Pils, Markus Heigl, and Silke Spreitzenbarth, who will provide insights into Vienna’s world-class venues, sustainable event options, and tailored services for event organizers.

HelmsBriscoe EMEA Region Annual Team Meeting: A Showcase for Vienna

In mid-March 2025, Vienna hosted the HelmsBriscoe EMEA Region Annual Team Meeting, bringing together decision-makers from the meetings industry. As co-sponsor and partner, the Vienna Convention Bureau, along with local partners, played a key role in making this event an impressive experience and a showcase for Vienna’s capabilities as a meeting destination.
